TripAdvisor Recognises Nairn
British seaside towns Nairn in Scotland and Weymouth in Dorset have been selected by online travel guide Tripadvisor as two of the world’s top ten emerging destinations.
Weymouth ranked fourth in the list behind German ski resort Garmish-Patenkirchen, Belizean coastal town Dangriga and Argentinean city Rosario, while Highland town Nairn finished ninth.
Home to a 17th century harbour and a World Heritage coastline, Weymouth was described to 47 million Tripadvisor subscribers as having ‘seen a dramatic increase in popularity’.
The guide went on to say that the Dorset town’s ‘beautiful beaches’ should be visited before the 2012 Olympics Games.
Nairn's tourist attractions
Nairn offers attractions such as sandy beaches, the 14th century Cawdor Castle, and easy access to the Cairngorm Mountain.
Tripadvisor described Nairn, which offers attractions such as sandy beaches, the 14th century Cawdor Castle and easy access to the Cairngorm Mountain, for being ‘sunnier than towns just a few miles away'.
Patricia Yates, strategy and communications director of VisitBritain, said: “It’s wonderful to see travellers appreciating Nairn’s historic connections along with Weymouth’s beautiful beach and old-fashioned English hospitality.
“What’s more, Weymouth will soon secure its place on the global stage when it hosts the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic Games when VisitBritain will be promoting the town worldwide.
