Nestled within 60 acres of its own woodland garden, Stonefield Castle stands high on the Kintyre peninsula overlooking the craggy Argyll coastline and Loch Fyne. Famed for their fisheries and smoke-houses this area has much to be proud of and guests sitting in the restaurant will have a heady combination of exemplary Scottish cuisine and the most spectacular scenery on the West Coast. The Castle was built in 1837 and stands today as a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture, with long elegant windows, gothic turrets and imposing castellations. Each of its 33 bedrooms has been carefully designed to ensure that this period elegance is retained and indeed some of the original pieces of furniture remain in the hotel. The woodland gardens at Stonefield lure horticulturalists from far and wide to see its rare examples of exotic rhododendrons and shrubs. In fact Stonefield has the United Kingdom's second largest collection of Himalayan rhododendrons. The spectacular scenery of the local countryside makes this a stunning backdrop for summer walks or cosy autumn retreats.
Stonefield Castle is a superb example of Scottish Baronial architecture, built in 1837 and originally home to the Campbell family. It is now an elegant hotel with superb views over Loch Fyne, and only two miles from Tarbert, one of the most attractive fishing villages in the west of Scotland.
Retaining much of the original period furnishings, wood panelling, ornate ceilings and marble fireplaces, alongside old family portraits. Relax in the two spacious lounges, sample a drink in the panelled cocktail bar, browse at your leisure in the peaceful library and enjoy the spectacular views from the restaurant as you sample the superb cuisine. The views from the restaurant are spectacular. With one of the most breathtaking views in the West of Scotland, the restaurant in the castle offers a truly unique dining experience.
The Head Chef and his team create the finest delights of Scottish cuisine. From succulent fresh seafood to Argyll lamb, Buccleuch beef and home-grown vegetables, their commitment is to the very best of Scottish produce, skillfully prepared and creatively presented and served with crisp fresh vegetables from the hotel gardens and enhanced by the excellent international wine cellar.
