It always goes without saying that Scotland is full of attractions. Every tourism destination in the world says it is full of must see, must visit icons.
So what Scotland? Well maybe its because of the history; Jacobites, battles, massacres, clearances, murder, intrigue and that's just the new parliament! Or perhaps it's the scenery that provided the backdrop for all of these activities - Glencoe, Culloden, Bannockburn, Loudoun Hill. Or maybe its the buildings that were built as a result; castles like Stirling, Edinburgh, Culzean or how about Borthwick or Dundonald.
Museums and art galleries relfecting our culture and that of others. Try Kelvingrove or The Burrel in Glasgow; the Dean or National Galleries in Edinburgh. Or search out all the smaller unique venues throughotu the country.
Sporting venues such as Murrayfield or Hampden; country estates and newly formed national parks. Lochs like Lomond or Ness or more remote ones located on the way to scaling one of the 284 Munros in Scotland (See Wikipedia for more info on a Munro!)
For more information you could do worse than visiting the websites of The National Trust for Scotland or Historic Scotland or spend some time in Scotlands For Me - all of the attraction information has been entered by the attractions themselves and will offer you an insight into where to visit in 2007
Scotland's natural beauty and built environment collide to make it a very individual and special place. There are other destinations but for the visitor who has made the effort to travel to and around there are some totally unexpected moments awaiting around the very next corner.
