As usual 2007 will see Scotland having a whole load of events throughout the country. Of course it will kick off as usual on Hogmanay into New Years Day in cities and villages across the country.

As well as the big city centre celebrations you'll also find annual local festivities in smaller towns and villages such as Biggar in Lanarkshire.

Moving into the rest of the year and you'll never be that far from a festival or a celebration. Celtic Connections in Glasgow at the beginning of the year, the Edinburgh Festivals in the summer and Highland 2007 is a year long celebration of the Highlands of Scotland with an enormous amount of cultural and sporting events taking place under that banner for the full twelve months.

Major venues offer top rock, pop and classical acts, the number of music festivals increase with T in the Park at Balado in Perthshire now being one of the largest in the UK.

The Open Championship return to Carnoustie in 2007 and it is accompanied by The Scottish Open the week before at Loch Lomond and the Dunhill in Fife amongst other major professional golf events. For the amateur you could do worse than play one of the Scottish Golf Classics in Fife in June, Ayrshire in July and Highlands in September.

The West Highlands and the area around Fort William in particular has become a magnet for outdoor pursuits and is attracting an increasing number of world class extreme sports events such as Mountain Biking.

Keep an eye on the what's on section in each area of Scotland and get that bit more from your next visit.
